Our Story 

In 2001, when my family moved from Zimbabwe, we wanted to carve a niche for ourselves in the marine industry. This is partly because back in Africa, we were practically born in the water and when we weren't in the water, we were on boats. Our mutual love of boating led us to sunny Florida, where my husband Gary quickly became a Certified Marine Mechanic and began his path to starting his own company (Amzim Marine Services - named after our two favorite places in the world: America and Zimbabwe). Amzim Marine quickly became one of the largest and busiest Formula Thunderbird Authorized Service Centers in the state of Florida, if not the US. There was very little on a boat that Gary or his team couldn't fix, but it was there that I discovered a niche in our company (and area) that was underserved. 

 

The one thing that Amzim was unprepared for was an uptick in requests for custom or replacement canvas enclosures, as well as replacement cushions and upholstery. Most of my professional experience in Zimbabwe was in interior design and indoor upholstery, so I saw an opportunity: with the right equipment and the best fabric and material, I could help our customers get exactly what they needed! So I told Gary that I needed a commercial sewing machine and a good set of scissors and I'd be starting my own company. Thus, Naples Canvas & Upholstery was born. 

 

In just a couple of years, my business has grown from a one woman shop making biminis and cockpit covers, to being a major player in the Upholstery business in the Lee/Collier County area! Our designers and fabricators have over 86 years of combined experience tackling everything from burlap handbags & masks for nursing homes, to enormous canvas enclosures and reupholstering hotel lobbies & VIP areas in a local Arena. We supply our customers with the highest quality and longest lasting fabrics and materials, so they can rest assured that their new products will stand the test of time & wear. We've developed relationships with restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, boaters, local residents, hospitals and even the Sheriff's department! We're always looking for ways to better serve our community. 

 

I'm so thankful that I have been given the opportunity to serve our community in such a big way and I can't wait to see what the future brings to our humble little shop!
